Key’s To Becoming A Morning Person

I’ve read tons of articles about ‘how to become a morning person‘ and sometimes wonder where people come up with these ideas. Why would you set an alarm 4 rooms away or try all these crazy alartms… some of the suggestions seem really silly! I wanted to share some advice for how to become a morning person because I am 100% a morning person!

How to easily become a morning person

Go to bed earlier! I typically go to bed between 9 and 10 – At the very latest I will go to bed at 10:30 and that feels like midnight to me!  My parents always gave me a pretty early bedtime and it something that has stuck with me.

Get up early every morning – No matter how late I stay up, if it’s a weekday or a weekend I always get up by 6:30. You can ask my fiance but I’m always up early! My internal clock wont let me sleep in.

No naps – I know that some people love taking an afternoon nap on the weekends (especially after a late night out) but I always push myself to stay awake.

Bedtime tea – I’ll admit that there are some nights that I don’t feel tried at 9 and its hard to image that I need to go to bed. On those nights I’ll make myself a cup of bedtime tea, read a book and snuggle into bed.

No phone, computer and TV after 9 – This one is hard for me and something I’m constantly work on but I try to turn off my phone, computer and TV at 9. They say that staring at the screen keeps you up. We don’t have a TV in our bedroom so that distraction isn’t there for us.

Reading – I love reading, I’m currently reading the first Game of Thones book. (I’m a huge Game of Thrones nerd!) I always keep a book on my bedside table and read a chapter or two every evening. It really helps me unwind and allows my mind to start drifting away from the day.

Melatonin – Just like the bedtime tea, there are some times that I really cant fall asleep. If I’ve tried bedtime tea, reading and I’m still wide awake I will take a small dosage of melatonin. It’s a natural supplement that will help you fall asleep.

Stay consistent – This is probably the most important! Just like anything else in life, once something becomes a habit it sticks! If you start going to bed and waking up earlier you’ll want to continue that trend.

Enjoy your mornings – Like I said, I get early all the time. During the work week I’ll either head to an early yoga class or jump in the shower so I get to the office early. On the weekends I normally get going on errands and I’m that person walking into to Target at 8:00 when they first open the doors.  If you haven’t been there before at 8 am, it’s amazing! The stores are empty and you can get in and out quick; same thing with brunch! You can be the first person in without a long wait!
